Sustainability
The world of jewelry, accessories, and textiles faces many challenges, from the fast fashion phenomenon and the mining of new raw materials to logistics and the
impact of waste. Sustainability has never been more important, but what does it
mean in practice?
At Ronja Selina, sustainability, combined with continuous improvement, forms
the foundation of our values. Our mission is to create timeless jewelry crafted
with as little environmental impact as possible. This commitment stretches from
sourcing raw materials to designing, making, and delivering each piece.
Sourcing of materials
It all starts with the materials. All components, beads, metal wires, and packaging
materials are sourced from European suppliers committed to responsible
practices. We prioritize sourcing as close to production as possible to
minimize the carbon footprint of logistics. Whenever possible, we work directly
with factories to reduce unnecessary intermediaries and transport. To ensure
transparency, we want to provide information about the origin of our materials:
- Metal parts: sourced and produced in Poland, France & Italy
- Metal wires: sourced from Ireland, produced in Germany
- Crystal glass beads: sourced from Lithuania, produced in the Czech Republic & Austria
- Freshwater pearls: sourced from Finland, cultivated in China
- Packaging materials: sourced and produced in Denmark
Silver
925 silver is highly recyclable – it can be melted down and reused many times. Most of the silver in our jewelry is recycled. These silver components are produced in France and Italy, where the factories follow the RJC CoC standard to ensure the silver comes from responsibly managed sources. This guarantees traceability, environmental protection, and respect for human rights and workers’ rights. Recycled silver often comes from old jewelry or electronics, reducing the need for new mining.
All silver used in our jewelry complies with EU REACH regulations, ensuring it is safe and controlled.
Packaging and delivery
We use FSC®-certified packaging, ensuring that all forest-based materials come from responsibly managed forests. This means that no more trees are cut down than can regrow, biodiversity is preserved, and forests remain carbon sinks. FSC®
certification also covers social responsibility, including workers’ and local
communities’ rights.
All shipments to customers are sent via Posti Green, a carbon-neutral delivery
service. Emissions from these shipments are offset through certified climate
projects, making the delivery process as environmentally responsible as
possible.
Continuous improvement
Continuous improvement reflects the fact that perfection doesn’t exist – what matters is making better choices every day. Sustainability is a journey, not a one-time achievement. We are constantly exploring new ways to reduce our environmental impact. For example, right now we are looking into the possibility of switching all metal components to recycled silver. Every thoughtful choice brings us one step closer to a more sustainable future, and even small decisions can have a meaningful impact.
